To me, photography is about the study of light, shade, form, pattern and colour. Anything else included is a bonus. Often, the 'anything else' is the best part, but not always.
I have concentrated recently on flower and foliage subjects because they encapsulate the basic ingredients I am interested in. And occasionally there is that bonus as well. Anyway, they don't move a lot - unless there is a wind blowing - and don't talk back, which is a bonus in itself.
